To begin, you need to have installed VirtualBox and its guest additions on a guest OS running on Linux (Ubuntu) or Windows. Fortunately, setting up USB passthrough to VirtualBox VMs is not hard to implement. If you work with VirtualBox on a regular basis, at some point, you will need to access a USB device from a virtual machine.
